Homewood Suites by Hilton Vancouver-Portland

Horrible experience. I have booked for 3 nights, first night so far there is no heat (outside is 16 degrees) and last night I have called front desk many times and there was no answer. The hotel design is ridiculous, I need to cross the parking in freezing winter to get to the breakfast. Yesterday I had to drag my luggage in snow and slush to get to my room. I will never come back.

Made reservations directly with Hilton. Charged full fare "due to high demand." When I checked in, I noticed the algae green pool and a "Pool Closed" sign. I learned it had been closed for "5-days or so". I was there for the next 3-days...never saw anyone working on it. Potted plants on pool deck were dried up and dead. The whole area was unsightly...and happened to be my view from my room. The gym has some nice equipment. However, some of it was broken and the water cooler/dispenser was inoperable. The room furniture is old and musty. The bathroom was very disappointed with missing corner tiles and signs of mildew. The bathroom floor was dirty. Overall, the room just did not look or smell clean. Much of the parking lot was taped off due to resurfacing. Had to park on the street at times. No big deal, but on top of everything else...almost too much to take. The staff was very kind and professional. I felt bad for them. They deserve a nicer property. Complimentary breakfast and staff were good as well. The manager did comp my room for one night.

Large suites in a good scenic location by the waterfront. Outdoor parking is free, and the breakfast buffet is included in the room price. There are also a few restaurants within easy walking distance, which is convenient. However, the room I got in building 2 was dated and needed a thorough cleaning (especially the floor, kitchenette and bathroom). Since dogs were allowed and walls were thin, I had to listen to loud barking and my neighbor's TV every night. I would recommend asking for the top floor to avoid hearing people moving about above you. Also, you must request housekeeping services a day in advance and even then, vacuuming was not part of the services. Overall, I was disappointed with the experience and won't be staying there again.
